Activity Three / Create a Quadrant
Instructions for Teachers

Materials
Quadrant Pattern (click to download a pdf file)
Cardboard, plywood or styrofoam cut into 1/4 of a circle at least 6" on a side
String
Weight (sinker, washer, large bead or paper clip will do)
2 pushpins
Glue

Directions
Cut out the pattern copy.
Trace on wood, styrofoam, or cardboard and cut it out.
Glue pattern to backing.
Drill or poke hole through star.
Run string through hole and tie on both sides.
Tie weight to string so it hangs below the edge of the instrument.

describe the use of a quadrant

Procedure
A ssign an individual or group to assemble a quadrant. Information on this instrument is limited. Students could be asked to draw a poster of how it is used, and oral presentations could be included in this activity. This instrument and the others in the Activities could be assigned to individuals or groups to create a "Navigation Day" where all the instruments are displayed.
