The Captured Enemy Flag from U-505
U.S. Navy photograph in the collections of The Mariners' Museum

Captain Daniel V. Gallery presents the U-505 Commandant's Ensign as a war souvenir to Admiral Jonas H. Ingram, Commander in Chief of the Atlantic Fleet in July 1944. The captured flag was ultimately presented to the United States Naval Academy Museum in Annapolis, Maryland. In a feat of logistics and engineering, U-505 itself was moved out of the water in 1954 to be placed on display at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, Illinois.
