Opening Saturday, May 4, 2002, Captive Passage: The Transatlantic Slave Trade and the Making of the Americas was organized in cooperation with the South Street Seaport Museum in New York City and the National Museums & Galleries on Merseyside in Liverpool, England. The original Transatlantic Slavery Gallery in Liverpool was initiated and supported by The Peter Moores Foundation.

Following its close at The Mariners' Museum on December 31, 2002, Captive Passage will begin a national tour first at the Smithsonian Institution and then at other major venues across the country.
