| Creamware Pitcher, Orozimbo of Baltimore Herculaneum Pottery Factory, Liverpool, England, ca 1806-1810 |

The ship Orozimbo of Baltimore was built in 1805 in Matthews County, Virginia. Captain E. P. Gardener memorialized his vessel's maiden voyage to Liverpool by commissioning this pitcher with his initials. The source image for the vessel on the pitcher is a watercolor in the Museum's collection. On the reverse is depicted the apotheosis (glorification) of George Washington, a common subject in the decades after this popular president's death.
