Issued 1973

The Santa María de la Inmaculada Concepción was the largest of the three ships that Columbus commanded on his first voyage. Santa María was a carrack with three masts, but only a single deck. Aside from being Columbus’ flagship, Santa María is also the first recorded European shipwreck in the New World, having been grounded on the island of Haiti on Christmas Day, 1492.
