MODERN LETTERS HOME
George Geer wrote home to his wife Martha about his life aboard the USS Monitor. In the exhibit Women and the Sea, visitors of all ages are encouraged to write a letter to a loved one and deposit it in the exhibit’s "mailbox." Throughout the exhibit’s duration, The Mariners’ Museum will be posting selected letters online. Visitors are aware that their "letters home" may appear on the Internet. New letters will be posted monthly.

Dear Rusti

Today we crossed the allagator (sic) river and into the sound. The waves were hard on the clover leaf. As you know the boat is only 28ft long and with 3 foot waves we are crossing and rolling all over the place. I will be home on Thursday and I will see you then

Love,
Stephenee
